Adenoma of the nipple, also known as florid papillomatosis, is a rare benign breast tumor that arises from the ductal epithelium of the nipple. It is characterized by the growth of multiple small papillary projections in the nipple and areola. Adenoma of the nipple usually presents as a firm, painless lump or bumps on the nipple that may bleed or produce nipple discharge. It occurs more commonly in women and may develop in people of all ages, but usually before the age of 50. Although adenoma of the nipple is benign, it may be associated with an increased risk of developing breast cancer. Therefore, it is important to have the condition evaluated by a healthcare provider and to undergo appropriate diagnostic testing and follow-up care. Treatment may involve surgical excision of the affected area.
